Future of Learning: Balancing AI Innovation with Human Motivation

Inspired by Sal Khan and Sam Altman’s vision of a personal “Oxford tutor” for every student, my senior thesis explored the promise of AI and how it could transform education. Sharing my thesis.

Two questions stand out: 1) How will AI change students’ learning, and 2) how will the role of a teacher change?

As access to information becomes ubiquitous, the challenge of learning shifts to motivation. I argue that good teachers will now matter more than ever before because they help students connect the learning process to each student’s motivation, keeping them curious, focused, and inspired to learn.

While AI can make learning faster and more personalized, actual results will fall short of expectations without motivation. AI can help students learn more efficiently — or not at all. The teacher will make the difference.

As the pace of AI continues to reshape the way we think of education, I hope these ideas merit further exploration.
